4D Retro Matt Black Number Plate

Vintage Style. Modern Stealth. Love the classic Charles Wright font but want a contemporary finish? Our 4D Retro Matt Black plates combine the narrower, vintage font style with a laser-cut, non-reflective matte acrylic. It’s a subtle, sophisticated nod to the past with a strictly modern execution. Fully road legal.

Why Choose 4D Retro Gloss Black Plates?

The 4D Retro Gloss Black style is the perfect blend of old-school character and new-school precision. We have taken the classic, slightly narrower font style seen on vintage plates and reimagined it with modern 4D laser-cutting technology.

The “Retro” Aesthetic, Remastered

Standard number plates use a blocky, uniform font. Our 4D Retro plates feature a distinct typeface that is narrower and sharper, giving your registration a refined, custom look. By cutting these characters from 3mm Gloss Black Acrylic, we add physical depth to the vintage style, creating a shadow effect that pops against the yellow or white background.

Is the Retro Font Road Legal?

Yes. Despite the custom look, our 4D Retro Number Plates are fully compliant with BS AU 145e regulations.

Font Size: We ensure the characters meet the mandatory height (79mm) and width requirements for legality.
Spacing: The space between characters and groups is strictly measured to ensure ANPR camera readability.
Material: We use premium, impact-resistant acrylic that is non-reflective and solid black, meeting all DVLA standards.

Premium Build Quality

We don’t just stick letters on plastic. Our manufacturing process ensures longevity:

Laser Precision: Every character is cut with sub-millimeter accuracy for crisp, clean edges.
Industrial Adhesive: We use high-strength 3M adhesive that withstands jet washes, road salt, and UV exposure.
High Gloss Finish: The acrylic letters have a glass-like shine that matches the glossy finish of modern vehicle paintwork.

Are 4D plates road legal? Yes, when they are made to BS AU 145e by a DVLA-registered supplier with solid black characters in the standard font and spacing. Read our guide: are 4D number plates legal in the UK?

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I needed to switch my private reg off as I was selling my car, after searching on google I found num8er plates local to us, after discussing with Rauf what I needed to bring we promptly arrived, he took all my details I obtained from DVLA, they were printed and fitted to my car (there was a small charge for fitting). His shop is split into 2 parts, plates & vapes. In the plates side he does 3 & 4D plates, they're amazing to look at.
In the vape side there were a good selection of phone cases & screen protectors, but he also sold parfum, I bought 3 for my hubby, just for wearing at the gym, 3 for £20 and the black did smell rather nice. We know where to come once he runs out!. Thanks Rauf for being so helpful, lovely chatting with you too. Julie & David x
